Braking system

The braking system enables the vehicle to be slowed down and stopped under optimum conditions. It must demonstrate:

 

  • Stability: maintaining the vehicle's trajectory
  • Efficiency: within a minimum time and distance
  • Progressiveness: with braking proportional to driver effort
  • Comfort: with minimum driver effort

 

The importance of the braking system is well established. In all road conditions, it's essential to have efficient brakes, so as to be fully prepared for any emergency situation. That's why you need to replace your brake discs and/or pads at the first sign of wear. Brake degradation has a number of consequences which can have a serious impact on your safety:

 

  • Less effective braking.
  • The need to press the brake pedal harder, which means longer braking.
  • Annoying braking noises (squeaking, rubbing).

 

How to detect brake wear?

 

To detect brake wear, there are several signs to look out for:

 

  • The brake pad wear indicator light on the dashboard comes on.
  • The need to press the brake pedal further before the car brakes.
  • Your brakes consume much more brake fluid.
  • The brake fluid level has reached its minimum (the corresponding indicator on the dashboard lights up).
  • The lining thickness of your brake pads is below 5 mm (visible to the naked eye).

 

If you notice any of these signs of wear, it's imperative that you visit a MIDAS center and replace your brake pads or discs immediately. The longer you wait, the more the brake pad lining will deteriorate. Repairs will then be much more expensive.
